Meaningless! Meaningless! says the Teacher, everything is meaningless. Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
The Teacher Is Right
Think about it. You spend your skill and effort building empires, but eventually you have to hand over. Not only that, whatever you thought was very important is reduced to nothing as someone comes up with a better innovation and your fame fades away.
Whatever you currently call yours, your children claim as a right even though they never shed a single drop of sweat for it. So, the Teacher is right. Everything, when given serious thought, is meaningless.
What Rescues Effort From Vanity
Unless you keep one fact as part and parcel of all your efforts: fear God and keep His commandments. Unless all our efforts, creativity and the fruit thereof are dedicated to God's mission, everything is finally reduced to meaningless, meaningless.
