Only Christ is the ultimate, untouchable Anointed of God; leaders today are accountable to Scripture like every other believer.
David asked him, "Why weren't you afraid to lift your hand to destroy the Lord's anointed?"
An Old Testament Category
David orders the killing of the young man who had on Saul's request finished the suicide. Tough zeal right there. But the question is whether we still have untouchable Lord's anointed figures in the New Testament.
Check the facts. All believers are anointed for service. Church leaders, whatever their title, are not more anointed than other believers. They are simply gifted to build others and they are accountable to Scripture.
Only Christ
Only Christ is the ultimate, untouchable Anointed of God. So next time someone misbehaves and tries to sell fear with words like touch not the Lord's anointed, remember that some Old Testament categories like Saul's anointing for kingship do not apply in the New Testament in the same way.
That phrase, when used to shut down truth and accountability, is little more than hot air.
