The Lord is my fortress. He protects me even from my own passions.
Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
A Fortress In Provocation
When we speak of the Lord being our fortress, many times we have in mind situations when the storms of life hit us. Rarely do we speak of Him being our fortress when we are provoked, angry, and have the capacity to retaliate.
When you react in anger, you may end up ruining relationships that have taken long to build. Human beings, even the saved ones, unlike God sometimes lack the capacity to forgive you.
Protected From Ourselves
The Lord being our fortress implies taking our time to seek His direction when people provoke us. It means keeping quiet and taking no action when we are not sure we have what it takes to obey Him who commands us to pray for and bless those who hate and provoke us.
This is where we truly appreciate the fact that our salvation is by God's grace alone. The Lord is my fortress. He protects me even from my own passions.
