Petty jealousies and little grudges misfire the soul and slow us down from achieving the eternal purposes God ordained for us.
As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.
A Prayer About Brevity
Lord, help me to always remember I am mortal, to have a reasonable estimate of my days, and to keep in mind that I am here for a very short time.
Help me therefore to avoid petty jealousies, little grudges, keeping records of offences, and being distracted by the world's glamour. These negative-energy-inducing vices act like a vehicle misfiring, obstructing and slowing me down from achieving the eternal purposes you have ordained for me.
Help me to keep my eye on the ball and only entertain those emotions that act like catalysts to propel me toward attaining life objectives which have eternal value. Amen.
