Legalism And Over-Wisdom
If to be righteous is difficult, is it really possible to be over-righteous? Solomon's point is that adding strict rules that are not in God's Word is a sign of self-righteousness. It leads to legalism and robs believers of the freedom enjoyed in Christ.
I also witnessed a good Christian man destroy his family and ruin his marriage through over-wisdom. He knew so much that the opinions of his wife and children were always dismissed until they all ran away from him, leaving him lonely and miserable.
A Better Way
The call is to depend on God's grace, appreciate the limitation of your wisdom, and acknowledge that others, even those you consider less learned, may teach you a thing or two.
With this attitude, life becomes a blissful, adventurous ride.
