The 31,700 enjoyed the comfort of home, but they missed the adventure of seeing God at work.
So Gideon sent the rest of the Israelites home but kept the three hundred, who took over the provisions and trumpets of the others.
Home Or The Frontline?
I find this one of the most fascinating episodes in Scripture. Gideon is assured through various signs that he is God's chosen vessel to save Israel, yet after several rounds of sifting only three hundred are left to do the job.
As the rest are going home, what goes on in their minds? Maybe the 31,700 are happy to return to the comfort of home, while the three hundred sense that impossible as the task looks, this job can be done with God on their side.
The Adventure Of Obedience
The task of saving the world and doing God's work is never easy. It seems impossible to those without the eye of faith. But to those in Christ, as long as He says go, then it is doable.
