We must move from goodies-based faith to the unshakable, unrelenting, unyielding faith of Ruth.
Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.
Beyond New-Year Hype
It is the beginning of a new year, a season where church leaders give prophetic declarations, utterances, and promises of divinely ordained goodies. The big question is whether there is any substance or need for this religio-cultural hullabaloo.
When Ruth uttered these often quoted words, Naomi had not offered any promises or hope of good things ahead. In fact she had given a grim yet realistic picture of what returning with her to Bethlehem would mean. Ruth's response was based on pure, uncompromising love and devotion.
Follow Wherever He Leads
That same faith and devotion to Jesus and His cause should be the guiding light to our lives. We shall follow wherever He leads. And whether this elicits an amen or not, the fact is that sometimes participating in His mission may lead us into very difficult terrains.
May God help us to grow in our relationship with Him and our commitment to His mission so that we move from goodies-based faith to the unshakable, unrelenting, unyielding faith of Ruth.
