We have the key to open the door to God's rest. The real question is whether we are willing to confront the heart condition that keeps us from turning it.
So I declared on oath in my anger, “They shall never enter my rest.”
Why They Could Not Enter
How did the stubborn Israelites earn themselves this ominous declaration? The problem was in their hearts. Their attitude. They were the flock under God's care, but due to their trust issues, they simply could not perceive or appreciate His love and care. So they could not enter Canaan, the land of plenty, security, and above all God's presence.
In our dispensation, we are not going into a physical Canaan. Ours is a spiritual one where God dwells in us and governs from within.
The Culture Of Discontent
But we can find ourselves living in the sad space of those miserable fellows. It all depends on our attitude. If we live by the cultural waves of our day, we certainly will never enter His rest. This culture fosters discontent and lies. It tells us that happy are those with bigger cars, bigger houses, bigger stomachs, bigger what not.
Culture tells us the only good thing is what we do not have. Even if those who have the bigger things tell us they are groaning all night and hardly sleep, we still wish we were in their position. No wonder we never enjoy His rest.
We have the key to open the door to God's rest, our Canaan. The question is whether we are annoyed enough with our current heart condition to turn it.
