Our culture glorifies personal comfort and gain, but that often keeps us from the very assignments that would make life vivid with God.
But Moses said, O Lord, please send someone else to do it.
The Reluctance Of Moses
Apart from personal speech-related challenges, Moses had enough reasons to be reluctant to take the assignment. His current life was calm and peaceful, and the divine call introduced snakes, leprous hands, conflict, and political tension.
The assignment also involved persuading the slaves and confronting Pharaoh, a ruler whose power Moses deeply understood. Add to this the reality that there seemed to be no obvious personal gain, and reluctance became understandable.
Beyond Personal Gain
Many believers still weigh divine appointments through the lens of personal advantage. Yet the kingdom of God is not built by people who only accept assignments that preserve convenience and promise immediate benefit.
When we repeatedly decline costly obedience, we settle for a tame life that lacks the thrill and adventure God intended. Time to evaluate our lives, is it not?
