No one has the capacity to resist God's rule over His universe, and history itself is already moving toward that final confession.
All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name.
Nothing Escapes His Rule
Many of us pay just a passing glimpse at such texts and if we think about them at all, we shrug our shoulders and quietly ask, is this real?
The fact is, no part of creation escapes God's sovereign rule. While the faithful willingly bow to Yahweh, the rebellious bow to His rule involuntarily. Even human history obeys His calendar.
The Greeks were divinely raised for purposes of providing a universal language so Scripture could reach more nations. The Roman empire came with roads and the Pax Romana so Yahweh's message of redemption could reach more people easily. Each epoch unknowingly serves His purposes.
History Is Moving Somewhere
There are times He stirs nature just to remind man of his limitations and vulnerability.
But even more importantly, this verse is proleptic, representing a future event as if it has already happened. The world is generally moving toward the apocalypse. At the end times, every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.
The text therefore is an encouragement to weak-kneed Christians whose faith wobbles when they see the scale of human moral rebellion against Yahweh. No one has the capacity to resist His rule over His universe. Praise the Lord.
