The people most easily carried away by waves are usually not the serious serving category, because servants are too busy with their Master's work to keep hopping.
Some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead.
From Sacrifice To Stones
This happened at Lystra during Paul's first missionary journey. When they entered that town, God moved mightily and they healed a well-known cripple. The crowds even offered to sacrifice to the missionaries.
However, after a few days, some silver-tongued fellows came from neighboring cities and convinced the same crowds to stone the very men they had earlier wanted to sacrifice to as gods.
Busy On Your Plough
A huge percentage of church members even today are no different from those shallow converts. As soon as a wave comes, they quickly abandon whatever they were doing in order to follow it.
One thing I have noticed though is that the people carried away by these waves are not the serious serving category. Those are too busy exercising their gifts and serving their Master in their areas of calling to be moved. So, are you a Lystran Christian waiting for the next popular wave, or are you so busy on your plough advancing God's kingdom that you only take casual notice of such waves? Are you a servant or a hopper?
